Excellent hotel with a perfect location — right in the heart of Brussels’ vibe. The staff is outstanding, but a special mention goes to the Moroccan manager at the reception desk (unfortunately I don’t remember his name). He truly made my day. While Booking.com’s customer service was completely useless in dealing with the issue caused by the cyber attack, the hotel manager handled everything with professionalism, calmness, and efficiency, ensuring my stay went smoothly even though my reservation wasn’t properly confirmed. A true example of genuine hospitality. I would definitely return.
We booked this hotel via Booking.com with a slightly bigger room then their usual room. Because we had to work on sunday the 21st of june we arrived in the morning of 00:30 22nd of june. Upon arrival everything was great and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. When we went to our room, 105 we saw that the room wasn’t ready. Literally everything seemed like you were moving out. So no big issue we went back downstairs and the same worker helped us and was a little bit confused but not suprised so he gave us a upgrade to a 3 person bedroom across their building, room 405. And i’m not kidding, that room was ALSO not ready! The same issue occured and 30min had passed. We went back and the worker was really confused and wanted to check for himself which we understand. He came back when it was 01:15 and told us unfortunately they are full and can’t give us a room anymore because those were the only two left. He didn’t know what is happening and quote “it’s a **** shitshow”. So by 01:25 we had to find a different hotel, in the middle of the night after a 10hour shift and a 1:30 hour drive. We have had never experienced this kind of situation ever in our whole life. Ofcourse we have received a full refund but this still doesn’t change the emotional distress we’ve had to experience. By 02:00 we finally have found a hotel.
The hotel is tucked away behind a restaurant and bar that I cannot comment on but the hotel itself was an interesting gem. The hallways were dark and moody with fun decorations and wallpaper (if you look closely its eyes). The elevator was even fun. The hotel hallways seemed never ending so it seemed massive. The room itself was a good stay. It was clean and tidy. GREAT water pressure in the shower which was a great. The hotel also left us some Belgium candy which was a nice treat! TVs were even updated that you can cast your iPad of anything to it while you’re winding down and night and watch whatever you want. Location was fabulous at it was only a short walk to the Grand Place. Mind you Ubers cannot pick you up in front of this hotel due to restrictions from my understand where taxis and Ubers can pick u up but we only had to walk a block or 2 to a pick up area.
I am absolutely appalled by my experience at this hotel. During my stay, I discovered bed bugs in my room—something no guest should ever have to deal with. Not only was it disgusting and distressing at the time, but I am now left worried about bringing them home, dealing with bites, and the stress and expense of ensuring my belongings aren't infested. What made the situation even more shocking was the hotel's response. When I reported the issue, they casually offered a refund as though this was a minor inconvenience rather than a serious health and hygiene failure. There was little acknowledgment of the distress, disruption, and anxiety this has caused. A refund does not erase the physical discomfort, sleepless nights, and ongoing concern that comes with exposure to bed bugs. I expected professionalism, urgency, and genuine concern for guest welfare. Instead, I felt dismissed. I would strongly advise anyone considering staying here to think carefully. Cleanliness and guest safety should be the absolute minimum standard for any hotel, and in my experience, this hotel failed badly on both counts.
Let's start by the positive: The location is central, it's fantastic, you can go anywhere by foot. There's a convenience store next door and many incredible restaurants. The hotel restaurant, Le Conteur, is delicious for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is decent. The room looks nice, great design and idea behind the hotel. Big windows, nice blackout curtains. The feeling of exclusivity and privacy staying at this hotel feels nice ; several key card checkpoints to insure safety and privacy. The the negative: The room looks nice but that's about it. There was no AC in the A suite rooms (first floor). We had to sleep with the windows open where all the smoke/smells from the street came through, the noise was deafening. We told the front desk about it, nobody knew anything or could communicate properly about it. We got switched to another room, same floor, which also didn't have the AC. We were told maintenance would come by and repair it, it did not get done and nobody at the front desk knew if maintenance came over. (We all know hotels often lie about not being aware the AC is broken, it's just a game of musical chairs, hoping you won't complain.) We asked no housekeeping, we also confirmed it on the tablet they require you to use. Someone came in every time to do our room. We brought the issue to the front desk, insisting no housekeeping. Someone still did our room. We raised again the issue with the young front desk guy who looked terrified even when you just said hello to him and who's eager to please but doesn't know how to solve anything. Most of the staff avoids your eyes anyway, you will not be greeted unless you stop by. We couldn't use the room phone to contact the front desk, the line didn't work. Nobody picked up when I called from my phone. The bed was miserably firm, pillows are a lump, it was laughable. The outlets get pulled out of the wall when you gently unplug your phone. The tiles in the bathroom are not grouted and are wobbly under your feet. The shower drains have a hard time draining during a 5 minutes shower and there is no ventilation so the room stays extremely humid. In our first room, there were skid marks in the toilet when we checked in. Luckily the front desk staff I mentioned it to was extremely reactive, got someone to clean it immediately and offered us breakfast for the next day. That was nice. And if you're there on a weekend, you can hear the festive restaurant at the ground floor party hard until midnight. Your bed will vibrate, for free! It frankly was disappointing, I never had to write such a scathing review, I dislike intensely having to complain to the front desk. This hotel is beautiful yet its insidious decay seems to not bother anyone.
